How it Works

(and how much it costs)

Working with me is simple, pleasant, and comforting.  Relationships are built on trust and respect, and I’ll guide you through it all.  Here’s what to expect after contacting me:

1) Discovery

  • Intake: I'll send you a short questionnaire to find out what you're interested in doing.
  • Free consultation: We'll set up 30 minutes to further discuss the project.
  • Response: I'll let you know if the project is a good fit and next steps.

2) Proposal

  • Statement of Work (SOW): I'll send you a proposal of the work and terms planned for the project, which we'll both sign. For ghostwritten content (long or short), my rate is roughly 50 cents per word. If all you require is editing, my rate is 10 cents per word.
  • Down payment: For long content, 25% of the payment is due upfront to kick off the project. For short content, as well as all editing projects, 50% is due upfront. Once received, I’ll get to work right away.

3) Outline

  • Interviews & research: I'll thoroughly research the subject matter, which may include interviewing you and/or other experts. The more direct the communication between us, the more quickly the project will progress.
  • Outline: I’ll send you an outline of the approach and structure of the project, and will revise it until we’re both in full agreement. This can be as collaborative as you want it to be.

4) Halftime

  • Review draft: I’ll send you rough drafts along the way, so that you have an idea of how it’s shaping up and to ensure we’re going in the right direction. You'll never have to worry about the status of our project. I’m very good about communicating (and even over-communicating).
  • Option to cancel: If for whatever reason you're not happy with how things are going, you can cancel at this point at no additional cost to you. Otherwise, for long content, the second 25% installment of the payment is due at this point.

5) Final draft

  • Rough draft: I’ll send you a final draft for your review.
  • Revisions: I'll make your requested changes, as you're allowed two major rounds of revisions (minor revisions along the way are fine).
  • Final product: Once you approve the final product, I'll save it in your desired format (Word or PDF). For all projects, the remaining 50% of the payment will be due at that point.

6) Publish? (OPTIONAL)

If you plan to publish any long content as a book, I may be able to help you format it for printing. If you're self-publishing, I can also direct you to an online printer I've had experience with. While our contract only includes the manuscript, I can still help guide you in this area if needed.
